Common Ground–Connect 4 Cheap

June 17, 2009

Everyone has a bar that subs in for about any occasion–first date(s), last minute birthday party, impromptu Connect 4 tourney, place to weather that freak city storm–well, Common Ground is mine. It’s well-located, just outside of frenetic Union Square. It has pleasantly worn-in couches, arranged so you can easily score a spot for a group or just you two.

Deal-wise, the 2 for 1 panini/appetizer is about the best I’ve found. I recommend the tangy, melting goat cheese , artichoke heart and balsamic vinegar panini. But the beauty of the ’2 for 1′ deal is, companion-willing, you get to try 2. I’ve never found Yuengling that memorable, but at $2 til 8, it certainly hits the sweet spot. If seeking distraction, the bar is chock full of games, from Battleship to the aforementioned Connect 4 to Jenga, which has blocks scratched with the truth-or-dare instructions of the most random (or accomplished) people ever. Make out with your elbow or watch your friend attempt an ‘Old Man Dance’!

Location: 206 Avenue A (bet. 12th & 13th)
Happy Hour:
Monday-Friday, 4:00-8:00pm
Buy 1 get 1 apps and paninis, $5 cosmos and apple martinis, $2 yuengling and miller lite

ten dollars and sense:
Yuengling: $2 x 2= $4
2 halves of 2 paninis split with a friend: $5
Your night=$9 (please remember to add a tip)
Fuller pockets? Why more yuengling, of course, or miller lite if you’re feeling sluggish from too much panini (and agua’s not your style).
